Training and Resources

Real Deal

In October, Real Life Ministries (Post Falls, Idaho) launched The Real Life Association to provide training and resources for churches and church planters. The organization offers two-day “Immersion” training experiences to help participants “evaluate and rethink how they do church and life together,” the ministry shares. “Immersion focuses on four key areas: intentional leadership, aligning the team, relational environments, and a reproducible discipleship process. There is such a demand for these Immersions that we’re now doing one every month (except for December), and [are] having to cap attendance at 50 participants.”

The Real Life Association also offers “Immersion II,” which includes more customized instruction to help each leader apply what he is learning, and the group plans to offer “boot camps” for new church planters. “We are [also] looking at developing a Church Planting Network where we’ll facilitate collaborative efforts between churches to plant new churches in the United States and other parts of the world,” the ministry writes.

Support Group

Second Timothy mentions Eunice, Timothy’s mother, as a woman of “sincere faith” who helped to shape his spiritual development. Lincoln (Illinois) Christian College and Seminary hopes its Eunice Club will have similar impact on LCC’s married students and their families.

“It is a challenge to take on this educational journey . . . at this time in their lives,” writes the school. “Many ‘nontraditional’ students give up good jobs and/or sell their possessions in order to answer the call to educationally prepare for full-time Christian service. They not only uproot themselves and their families to come to Lincoln, but many also face additional financial hardships while here.”

The Eunice Club’s pantry program provides food, and club members offer prayer and personal relationships. The school also invites Christians from local congregations to join the program and provide personal support to these young families.

Walking the Talk

Families, individuals, and small groups from 2|42 Community Church (Brighton, Michigan) recently participated in “Walking Prayer Tours” of downtown Ann Arbor to pray for the city and the launch of 2|42’s new campus there. The church created a CD and MP3, narrated by 2|42’s staff, to guide the prayer walk experience.

“When you reach East William, turn and head east,” says track 8 of the 14-track MP3 file (which can be accessed and downloaded from the church’s Web site). “On your way you will pass two churches, one on your left and one on your right. For years, churches in Ann Arbor have struggled to grow. One local pastor told me that planting a church in Ann Arbor is like throwing seed on asphalt and hoping it grows. As you pass this church, pray for all the congregations in Ann Arbor. Ask God to encourage them, strengthen them, and make them fruitful for his kingdom.”
