NOVEMBER
Englewood Christian Church, 57 N. Royal St., Indianapolis, IN, will host the “Through the Consuming Fire: Economic Faithfulness in an Age of Consumerism” conference Nov. 13 and 14. The conference “will explore what economic faithfulness would look like—particularly as shaped by denying ourselves, taking up our cross and following Jesus.” Speakers and workshops will focus on these three themes: community, contentment, and creativity. Main speakers will be Shane Claiborne (a prominent advocate of ministry to the poor), Kelly Johnson (professor of theology at the University of Dayton [Ohio] and author of The Fear of Beggars), and Will Samson (author of Enough: Contentment in an Age of Excess). Cost is $75—$65 for full-time students—and includes three meals Friday and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. Go to www.englewoodcc.com/consumingfire for more information and to register.
The 63rd National Missionary Convention will be held in Peoria, IL, Nov. 19-22. All conference engagements will take place at the Peoria Civic Center. Rick Jett, executive director of IDES (International Disaster Emergency Services), is serving as president. For more information about the convention, go to NMC’s Web site.
